Why isn't my main photo appearing when I publicise posts?

I have encountered a problem when publicising my wordpress travel blog posts from my blog (www.abitofculture.net) on facebook. When my posts appear on facebook, they don’t appear with the first photo in my post – instead it is often with the 3rd or 4th photo. How can I ensure photo number one always appears?

    Many thanks,

The blog I need help with is abitofculture.net.

You can’t. We have zero control over which images Facebook chooses to display. They freaquently change things at their end and there are many threads that get posted all the time on this same issue. All we know has been provided by Staff here:

Only the first five images uploaded to a post (direct inclusion/gallery/slideshow) will be sent to Facebook. The images size has to be at least 200 x 200 pixels.
To select which image will be used for things like Facebook Publicize, you can use a theme that supports featured images. If a featured image isn’t set or your theme doesn’t use featured images, then the code tries to pick the first image in the post or page. If no image is found, then the blavatar is used.

    Thanks for the speedy reply!

Main photo will not appear in Facebook (don’t know about other sites) from “publicise” feature, but you can copy – paste the link where you want to share the photo & facebook will let you choose photos from the link, then you can select the main photo & post it.

You’re welcome and best wishes. :)
