Widgets not working in Annotum Theme.

Ennabling any of the widgets means that the elements on the right hand-side of the page (buttons, links, etc) disappear, and the widget doesn’t show up anyway; just white space.

    Yet more bugs?

The blog I need help with is mbukee.wordpress.com.

Sorry. I didn’t see the ‘Widgets’ forum.

As the theme you indicate has just been added we Volunteers answering questions on this peer support forum don’t have any experience when it comes to working with it. If you tried locating and activating widgets of your choice here > Appearance > Widgets and weren’t successful, then did you try clearing your browser cache and cookies before trying to activate the widgets again?

Yes. I’ve cleared cookies, cleared the browser cache and the problem (if it is a problem) still exists.

I’ve noticed that the widgets appear in the ‘Articles’ area but not anywhere else. Confused about it to be honest.

I’m sorry there wasn’t a quick fix. I previously flagged this thread for Staff attention so please hang in there. :)

Does anyone know how I can use code to edit the articles in Annotum? It appears that there is no ‘HTML’ option in the editor.

According to the designers of this theme there is no code. Eh?

    That sounds bizarre.

First: the first time you do anything to the sidebar, all the pre-installed widgets disappear. No worries, just add them back again one by one. Whichever ones you want.

Second: You should be able to use the HTML editor on any WP.com blog in the Write Post page or Edit Post page. I’ve never heard of a theme that doesn’t allow that, because the Write and Edit pages aren’t theme dependent. That said, not all code is allowable here, for security reasons. Some will be stripped out, for eg all iframes.

I just wanted a tag cloud in the sidebar, but when I dragged it across to the righ-hand side to enable it, all the pre-installed widgets disappeared, and the tag cloud widget never showed up.

I cannot use the HTML editor when creating an article that’s for sure. I would like to add a blockquote in an article, for example.

You should be able to do that using the Visual editor, though.

There is no Visual editor for editing articles; there is no formatting options to change the structure of content and configure the text.

…aside from what is already built in, I should add. There is no way, for example, to input your own code inside the editor. There is no way to add a blockquote when you need to quote content from the work of another author.

When you first start out, and before you add any widgets to the sidebar, the theme will display a sample set of widgets so that the sidebar is not empty. When you add a widget, that sample set will go away. Just add in the widgets that you want in the sidebar and arrange them as you wish.

The tag cloud will only show up if you have tags assigned to published posts.

The theme claims to have “advanced formatting”:

An open-source, open-process, open-access scholarly authoring and publishing platform based on WordPress, built on the Carringon Theme framework. Annotum provides a complete, open-access scholarly journal production system including peer-review, workflow, and advanced editing and formatting features such as structured figures, equations, PubMed and CrossRef reference import, and structured XML input and output compatible with the National Library of Medicine’s Journal Article DTD.

Can you take a screenshot of the Write Post box so we can compare it to ours?

    @sacredpath

The widgets have been replaced but they are not showing up. I dragged the tag cloud widget over to an empty slot. I saved/published. Where the widget should have appeared there was nothing. Just white space. So, I dragged across category cloud widget and that didn’t appear either; just white space.

When no widgets are dragged over the bult-in widgets suddenly reappear.

The post and page editor should be the same as the standard wordpress editor. Go to posts > all posts or pages > all pages, click on an existing entry and open it in the editor. Once open, you should be presented with the visual editor and to the right top should be two tabs, Visual and HTML. Clicking on the HTML editor will allow you to edit and/or add HTML formatting and such to the post or page.

That’s why then. But why would the built-in widgets disappear?
