Widgets not working in Annotum Theme.

When you first start out, and before you add any widgets to the sidebar, the theme will display a sample set of widgets so that the sidebar is not empty. When you add a widget, that sample set will go away. Just add in the widgets that you want in the sidebar and arrange them as you wish.

The post and page editor should be the same as the standard wordpress editor. Go to posts > all posts or pages > all pages, click on an existing entry and open it in the editor. Once open, you should be presented with the visual editor and to the right top should be two tabs, Visual and HTML. Clicking on the HTML editor will allow you to edit and/or add HTML formatting and such to the post or page.

I know that. But the options are not available to edit articles.

The problem is, I think we are all assuming that annotum was very similar to standard wordpress, and it appears from what you are saying, and reading up a little more on it, that it is far from just another theme.

I’ve afraid we volunteers are going to be totally useless since we can’t gain any experience with it. This is going to take staff only support and I think they need to get an annotum specific forum set up for all of you – and they need to put out some documentation on it.

FWIW I read everything I could find about the theme and even tried it in my test blog before I flagged the thread for Staff attention. :)

A little googling brought me to http://annotum.org which has a support section and some information. Pretty thin, but look it over.

Yeah I did check out that site too but there’s zero information on widgets.

They also have a “help desk.”

The main difference between Annotum and regular themes is that it includes a second type of posts: articles. Designed for scholarly articles, with ready-made sections for References, Abstract etc.

Articles are created and edited just like posts: you hover over Articles and click Add New, to create a new article, or Articles, to see and edit published articles.

In Appearance > Annotum Settings you can select if your front will display posts or articles. Or it can display a static front page, the usual way.

Widgets work as in some of the newer themes: no widgets unless you add your own. The difference is that you have a changing sidebar: “Default Sidebar” (shows on post pages), Article Sidebar (shows on article pages), Page sidebar (shows on static pages). Plus “Masthead Teasers” (header widget area).

Guess I’ll have to write a guide again…

I’m looking forward to you creating a guide as there is a large migration from Google Knol in the offing. :)

Untuk memakai tema ini harus merubah posting ke artikel? sangat tidak efisien dan efektif! It’s Bad! Seharusnya mempermudah pengguna, tapi ini kenapa mesti harus merubah format post sebagai default dari wordpress. It’s bad! Tolong perbaiki dari sistem template nya jika ingin menjadi template favorit! Jangan mempersulit pengguna! Thanks.

To use this theme should change the post to the article? highly inefficient and effectively! It’s Bad! It should simplify the user, but why should this post have to change the format as a default from wordpress. It’s bad! Please fix from its template system if you want to be a favorite template! Do not make users! Thanks.

“To use this theme should change the post to the article?” No. You can use this template just like any other wp.com template. It just offers articles in addition to posts. Articles have pre-configured headings and sections for everything the structure of a scholarly article requires (references, abstract etc.).

The reason for the addition of the Annotum templates is this:
    http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2011/11/22/google-knol-wordpress-annotum/
If you write scholarly articles, Annotum isn’t “bad”, it’s a marvel. If you don’t write scholarly articles, you simply don’t need Annotum.
