WordPress reader

Until very recently, when I would click on a post in my WordPress reader, it would open a new tab of that blog. Now it opens a preview window. How do I turn this new feature off? It has devalued the WordPress reader to me, which I liked very much until recently.

The blog I need help with is everydayasceticism.com.

Hi there – We made a recent change to the Reader, and now instead of opening the blog in a new tab, the full post opens in a pop-up. This is meant to be better, because you can read more without having to click in and out of the reader. Clicks on the full posts in the reader still count toward the blog’s stats.

Yes, this is precisely what bothers me. I’m not concerned about stats for my blog; I’m concerned about the usefulness of the reader. Why can’t the new feature be turned off? I don’t want to read posts in the reader. People design their blogs to look a particular way and I prefer to read them at each blog’s actual site, not in the reader. Basically, the reader already gives a preview. What this new feature does is make me click through another preview before being able to view the real thing.

Hi there – I’m sorry you don’t like the changes. There’s no way to go back to the previous version, however. If you want to try something else, you could subscribe by email for reminders, and then click from the email to the actual blog, or you could use an RSS feed reader.

Let me know if there’s anything else I can help with!
