wordpress.org in Nigeria
Hi! I don’t know how to move to wordpress.org since payments are only made through paypal and Nigerians are not allowed to use paypal for some reasons. How do I go about this?
The blog I need help with is evergreentruth.wordpress.com.
If you are moving to a WordPress.ORG install you do not pay WordPress.COM unless you need the Guided Transfer. If you want to register a custom domain name and map it to your blog here, that is not a WordPress.ORG install and yes you do need to pay WordPress.COM for the domain name & domain mapping.
If you are staying here, you have a tough deal since Nigeria is populated with so many thieves that PayPal (the company that handles all of the payments for upgrades) will not accept payments from your country.
E-checks might be an option, finding a friend in a country that will allow payments to PayPal is another option.
If you are truly moving to a WordPress.ORG install then the question is moot here – but then you need to find a host and registrar that will accept payments from your country, not all internet related companies use PayPal
I’m so sorry but as auxclass says your country Nigeria is not a PayPal supported country found on this list I will link to. WordPress.com uses PayPal as their payment processor, and as such, can only accept payment from countries they support: https://www.paypal.com/worldwide/
PayPal have chosen to block payment from your country, so you will not be able to purchase an upgrade here unless you have a source of payment outside of your country.
In addition to major credit cards Mastercard, VISA, American Express, Discover, and PayPal https://www.paypal.com/worldwide/ WordPress.com can accept echecks and some debit cards.
The debit card must have a VISA or Mastercard symbol on it, and should work just like a credit card when selecting the VISA or Mastercard option on the payment form, even though it’s a debit card.
More about echecks here:
WordPress.com also accepts Bitcoin for payment of certain upgrades ( bitcoin cannot be used for domain and premium theme purchases) – you can learn more here: http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2012/11/15/pay-another-way-bitcoin/
