Writing a Widget and the Cost to Write a Widget
All WordPress.com widgets are free. See the Widgets support page to learn more about widgets in general, and the Widgets & Sidebars support page for a link list of specific support pages for the available widgets.
Use a text widget for the purpose you have described. See the Text Widget support page.
Do you have a suggestion for what type of widget to use for my site. I considered gallery but do you put a gallery of pictures or posts. I used the link and looked at different types of widgets but still am unsure. What’s your suggestion?
For displaying a gallery in a widget, the Gallery Widget would be a practical choice. However, images in a gallery widget can not be made to link directly to posts, although they may do so indirectly if the images are attached to posts, and you select “Link to: Attachment Page” in the widget settings.
If you want a widget with images that link directly to posts, you might consider using the Top Posts & Pages Widget, with the “Display as” option set to either “Image Grid” or “Image List.” If you don’t want to be limited to top pages and posts, you could use customized display posts shortcode in a text widget, with featured images included. The size options are thumbnail, medium, and large. See the Display Posts Shortcode support page.
Thanks. How do you get the picture to go between the article or below the the article. You know at the end of the article. How do you create a pingback? How much do they cost? How do you create a badge? How much does that cost? Also, inserting a link. What kind of links do you insert?
All support docs are at https://en.support.wordpress.com/
Search for pingbacks there https://en.support.wordpress.com/?s=pingbacks
There is no charge.
If you are not adept at coding then create a draft post that you will later delete and do the link creation in it. After you use the Visual editor click into the HTML editor and copy and paste the content into a text widget.
See the guide for creating links in posts and pages: http://en.support.wordpress.com/links/
This is the general link model:
<a href="URL HERE">Highlighted anchor text here</a>
This is the visual result – it’s not actually linked here in the forum.
Highlighted anchor text here
1. Enter the relevant descriptive anchor text you want to link to first. Note that “here” is not a good choice. Use relevant anchor text to link to.
2. Then use your mouse to highlight that anchor text. (If you don’t highlight the anchor text the chain icon will remain grayed out and not be useable.)
3. Next, click the chain icon in the editor and proceed to create the link.
For creating links in a text widget and adding images see:
What kind of links do you insert?
How do you create a badge?
Badges are images. Please see:
About trackbacks and pingbacks, you use the full link in the address bar for trackbacks. For Example, https://wordpress.com/stats/day/daisymae2017.wordpress.com This is a trackback-right? As for pingbacks, If I read someone else’s blog/post and write for example, Pingback: Cute pictures and a good blog/post and the person’s name. Where does this go? Does it go in the comment section of of my post orthe other person’s comment section?
Hi @daisymae2017, everything is free unless otherwise explicitly specified.
Example, https://wordpress.com/stats/day/daisymae2017.wordpress.com This is a trackback-right?
That’s a link to your stats page actually. Only you can see the information on that page.
But here is an article about pingbacks. I wouldn’t worry too much about them for right now. Once you’re more comfortable with posting, things like pingbacks will make a lot more sense.
Please do go through the videos I mentioned earlier and watch them, and try those concepts out. I think that will help you greatly. Thanks!
How do I get the pictures to go in between my post and below my post?
You cannot compel any theme to produce an appearance that it is not designed to produce. Please consult your detailed theme description page at https://wordpress.com/themes/bouquet/ and know that one can embed images in posts and pages not between them.
I understand that.
Good then you understand that it is not possible too embed any images between posts.
For embedding images in posts and pages use the support docs.
For a custom header image use this support doc https://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-header-image/
For featured images use this one https://en.support.wordpress.com/featured-images/
I do. I just want images in between and below my post.
That is NOT possible.
So there is no way to have a picture post(for example: vacation pictures or of animals) then describe in a few sentences?
I have been answering you in two places and that duplication is unnecessary. Go to https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/putting-pictures-in-between-and-below-my-posts?replies=6#post-2865280
I’m going to go ahead and close this thread, but @daisymae2017 if you did not yet look at those videos I’ve mentioned a few times, please do go look at them. They will step you through almost all of the things you’ve asked about so far, and you’ll get to see how it looks on the screen, too, instead of just reading text. I think it will help you greatly.
