Writing Chat Posts

I recently started another blog for specifically writing quotes and conversations, so I activated San Kloud, a theme that has quote and chat formats.

The question is: how do I write a chat post? I’m completely stumped.

Do I have to do the HTML manually?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The blog I need help with is jfgrandomfragments.wordpress.com.

This will help you learn how to use WordPress.

@houstonweaver – checked out the tutorials already. Didn’t have any info on it as far as I could see.

I find this tidbit: “Chat – These posts highlight snippets of memorable conversations you have with friends, both online and offline.” in the article on Post Formats at http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-formats/. The article goes further to say about formats, “To see what the different formats look like with your theme, add some content to the editor, select a post format, and click Preview.”

When I tried out the chat post format on that them all I could see was that the formatting showed the “box” surrounding the post in a little conversation bubble like you see in comic strips.

Although the WordPress.org codex does not apply to WordPress.com, it offers a tiny bit more about the Chat Post Format that gives a glimmer about what WordPress had in mind. http://codex.wordpress.org/Post_Formats? They define a Chat Post Format as a chat script and show an example like this:

You: How do you write a chat post.
Me: Read a Learn WordPress document.
    You: That wasn't helpful.
Me: I'm an idiot. I didn't realize it was an official post format. Let me see what I can find.

I hope these bits of information have been helpful.

That definition of a chat post format should have read chat transcript, not script. My iPad gobbled up part of it.

You can see my blog for what happens when you just paste a regular chat into a regular post format.

You are not meant to create Chat posts: you are meant to use the Chat post format to paste in chats that have happened elsewhere.

If what you want is an interactive back and forth, you probably want the P2 theme.
