Now in my 60s I am still trying to engage with "life's persistent questions" as is said of Guy Nowar, private eye on Prairie Home Companion. My life has been characterized by variety. I was born a Southerner, grew up in Memphis, but I have also lived in Pennsylvania, California, Honduras and Seattle. I have worked as a pastor, tire changer, truck loader, street sweeper, teacher, coach, social activist and director of a center that integrated nonviolence and contemplation. My life was profoundly touched and changed from living in Memphis in 1968 when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated there. I have both the trials and profound blessings of being a husband, father, grandfather, divorcee, cancer survivor and one generously befriended by many. I am very blessed to both both engaged in life with and married to Sharon Pavelda.
