State of the Americas is a running commentary on money matters in the region. It's an unforgiving look into the leading energy, finance and economic issues shaping the continent. Raul Gallegos is a Latin America commentary writer. For more than 15 years Raul has covered the region’s business, finance and economics. He was a contributing columnist for Bloomberg View out of Colombia and the Latin America financial columnist for Reuters in New York. For five years he was the Venezuela-based oil correspondent for Dow Jones and the Wall Street Journal and a member of the OPEC coverage team in Vienna. He has been a reporter for the LA Times, and an editor for Institutional Investor. Raul holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of California at Berkeley and a master's degree in International Affairs from Columbia University. He was a 2010 Knight-Bagehot Fellow at the Columbia Business School.
